STEM workshop with Grow at School’s Mary Bishop

As part of Maths Week and our Climate Action work, we had a hands on STEM workshop with Grow at School and Mary Bishop of GIY.
We shared our work so far in Clontuskert’s Outdoor Classroom and Mary advised us on the next steps for winter and spring planting. She was very impressed with the Greenhouse Committee from Mr. Gohery’s room and how well they have been caring for the plants.

The students learnt so many tips for not only growing fruit and vegetables but also how to prepare our produce in the kitchen.

Thanks Mary and GIY!

Climate Change is a massive problem.
What are you doing about it?
In Clontuskert we want change.

One small change would be to ban plastic packaging in supermarkets.
Let’s start with the Fruit and Veg Aisle.
Why do we need plastic on fruit and veg at all? It already has its own natural packaging!!!

France banned fruit and veg packaging from January 2022.
Why can’t we do the same?

We are calling on the Irish government and all of our supermarkets and shops.
Ban plastic on fruit and veg!

Outdoor Classroom in Clontuskert 2022

Today the Senior Room began the task of planting the seeds we have been growing over the past month in the school garden.

The students have grown vegetables from seeds and today we transplanted them in the school garden.

Thanks to Clontuskert Parents Association who fertilised and covered the garden over the winter ❄️ we had a very quick job to make our drills and plant our vegetables.

We have planted carrots, courgettes, peppers so far!

Thank you to Caroline Lynch and family, Teresa Lyons, Mary Kelly and family and Hanoria Curley who prepared the school garden, sowed window boxes and cleaned outside the school.
Thanks to Pat Curley for power washing the handball wall, plinths and yards.

It gives a wonderful lift to everyone in the school to see it looking so well both inside and out.
