The Parker Cup is a Sports Award given annually to a member of Clontuskert Parish or a past pupil of the school who has demonstrated exceptional leadership and prowess in the sporting arena.
Congratulations to Joe Molloy, recipient of the Parker Cup for 2018.
Sport
At school Joe played football and hurling.
In university he played Rugby and began teaching in Garbally in 1968.
He played rugby for Ballinasloe RFC and in 1971 Joe was selected to play Rugby as Second Row for Connacht.
He is also a keen golfer and often featured on teams for Ballinasloe G.C.
In 1992 he became Club Captain and in 2016 he was honoured to be Club President.
Clontuskert
Joe is very much a Community Man. In the 1970s he set up the Clontuskert Youth Club. They renovated the old school and held their activities there.
He has been at different times in his life been a member of the School Board of Management, The Pastoral Council, the Finance Committee, the Heritage Group, the Community Alert Committee.
One of the most enjoyable groups, he joined and which gave him the most satisfaction was the Heritage Group. They were a very dedicated group of people and they can be very proud of the book they produced, edited by Joe, “ The Parish of Clontuskert “ Glimpses into the Past.
Joe has always enjoyed the company of young people. He delights in observing their discoveries, how their minds work and the questions they ask. Teaching them about their local area when he takes them on field trips has given him great pleasure and he hopes to continue his association with St. Augustine’s school children in the coming years.
Thank you Joe for your support of the school and congratulations to you on being the 2018 Parker Cup Winner.
