Today we are very lucky as Tony Larkin is visiting us in Clontuskert to talk to us about his job as a farmer.
1st and 2nd class are working on ‘Snack Attack’ for Junior FiRST LEGO League. he has 114 acres of land. Tony is a dairy farmer.He milks his cows twice a day morning and evening. Before Tony’s 48 freisian and Jersey cows go into the parler and in the parler the cows get their udders cleaned and then the clusters are put on the cows tiets.Each cow produces 22 and a half to 23 litres each day.While the cows are milking meal comes out broughs. Last year Tony used 50 tones of of meal.Tony has 23 paddocks of grass every day the cows switch from different paddocks .Unfortunatly Tony had to let some of his cows into his silage ground.When the cows calf’s it spends 96 hours with the calf’s and then it can go back milking.
Tony came to our school today and these and these are some of the things he told us:he has freisians,holstire and Jerseys.He has a two john deer tractors and a zetor. His milking machine can milk eight cows at a time.Tony is farming 22 years this year and is with Arabawn 13 years now.For every litre Tony gives then he gets 30c.Tony uses a fresian bull and an artificial bull.Each cow between moring and evening gives around 22 and a half litres of milk.Every two days Arabawn collects his milk which they bring to pasturise and clean . he uses 50 tones of of meal each year.
Today Tony Larkin came to our school to talk to us about his job as a dairy farmer and what he has to do.He has 114 acres of land he has all types of cows .he brings the cows into the milking parloar feed them and milk them.He can milk up to 8 cows at a time.He milks them morning and night but when it’s cold he has to feed them more .the average cow gives 22-23 litres a day they also chew with their back teeth .Tony always wanted to be a farmer.
